The relationship between class size and student outcomes has been a central focus in educational research for decades. This review synthesizes empirical findings from quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods studies to assess how class size influences student learning, achievement, classroom interactions, engagement, and teacher effectiveness. While the general trend indicates that smaller classes are associated with improved student outcomes—particularly in early grades and for students from disadvantaged backgrounds—results vary depending on grade level, subject area, instructional strategies, and contextual factors. The implications for policy and future research are discussed.
