Traffic congestion has become a major challenge in urban areas due to rapid population growth, increased vehicle ownership, and inadequate infrastructure. Inefficient traffic flow not only leads to delays and economic losses but also contributes to increased fuel consumption and air pollution. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) have emerged as an advanced solution to optimize traffic flow and improve overall transportation efficiency. the application of ITS technologies in managing and optimizing urban traffic. It explores various components of ITS, including traffic signal control systems, real-time traffic monitoring, adaptive traffic management, and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication. Data collected from sensors, cameras, and GPS-enabled devices are analyzed to monitor traffic conditions and make dynamic adjustments to traffic control systems. the effectiveness of ITS in reducing congestion, minimizing travel time, and enhancing road safety. Techniques such as adaptive signal control, route guidance systems, and congestion pricing are examined for their role in improving traffic flow. The study also considers the integration of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and data analytics in traffic management.
