THE RIGHT TO ACCESS CLIMATE INFORMATION AS AN ENABLING TOOL TO ADDRESS THE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH CLIMATE CHANGE

Abstract

The importance of enshrining the right to access information increases as it is one of the fundamental rights that enable individuals to exercise other rights and serves as a guaranty that allows individuals and communities to actively participate in climate action. It is considered a procedural right that contributes to the success and support of implementing adaptation and mitigation measures against the impacts of climate change. Thus, activating and facilitating access to environmental data and climate information is a necessary condition, especially as the need for this type of information has become more urgent and in demand due to the noticeable acceleration of climate change impacts at both the global and national levels. This reality requires continuous awareness and knowledge of environmental and climatic developments in order to adapt to them and mitigate their negative impacts, within a framework of transparency and accountability in administrative and political work.
