Abstract

The issue of unemployment is a key macroeconomic problem that has a considerable impact on economic development, particularly in economies that are still in the process of developing or emerging. A situation in which people who are ready and competent to work are unable to obtain employment that is suited for them is referred to as insufficient employment. An analysis of recent patterns in unemployment and the influence those trends have had on economic growth, productivity, and social welfare is presented in this paper. A number of factors, including economic cycles, technological advancements, demographic expansion, and structural adjustments in the labor market, all contribute to the formation of trends in unemployment. Countries such as India are experiencing prolonged unemployment and underemployment due to a combination of factors, including expanding population and skill mismatches. As a result of high unemployment rates, human resources are not being utilized to their full potential, income levels are falling, and aggregate demand is decreasing, which means that economic growth is being slowed down. Additionally, the socio-economic repercussions of unemployment, which include an increase in poverty, as well as income disparity and social instability. In addition, prolonged unemployment can lead to the loss of skills and a decrease in labor productivity, both of which have a negative impact on long-term growth prospects. On the other hand, the production of employment that is modest and well-managed has the potential to increase living standards and economic stability.
