Abstract

The Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect is a significant environmental phenomenon in which urban areas experience higher temperatures than their surrounding rural regions due to human activities and built environments. the primary causes of the UHI effect, including the replacement of natural land surfaces with impervious materials such as concrete and asphalt, reduced vegetation cover, high population density, and waste heat generated from vehicles, industries, and buildings. the wide-ranging impacts of the UHI effect on urban environments, including increased energy consumption, deteriorating air quality, and adverse health effects such as heat stress and heat-related illnesses. It also contributes to the intensification of climate change at the local level and affects urban ecosystems by altering temperature and moisture conditions. Furthermore, various mitigation strategies aimed at reducing the UHI effect. These include the development of green infrastructure such as urban forests, green roofs, and parks; the use of reflective and cool roofing materials; sustainable urban planning; and the promotion of energy-efficient technologies. The integration of these strategies can significantly lower urban temperatures and improve environmental quality.
