Abstract

Stress is an unavoidable aspect of human life that affects psychological and physical well-being. This paper examines stress from a psychological perspective, focusing on coping mechanisms and adaptive responses. Stress arises when individuals perceive environmental demands as exceeding their coping resources.
The paper discusses various coping strategies, including problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping, and social support seeking. Effective coping reduces the negative impact of stress and supports psychological adaptation. Chronic stress, however, can lead to anxiety, depression, and impaired functioning if coping resources are insufficient.
Psychological research emphasizes the role of individual differences, personality traits, and social context in stress responses. The paper concludes that understanding stress and coping mechanisms is essential for promoting mental health and resilience. Interventions that strengthen coping skills contribute to improved psychological adaptation and overall well-being.
